We’re building something extraordinary — and you can help shape it from the ground up.
Falling in Time (or What Else Should I Be?) is a multilingual, intercultural, queer love story that spans decades and continents — from Vancouver to Seoul to the battlefields of the Korean War. Written by award-winning playwright C.E. Gatchalian, directed by Peter Hinton-Davis and associate-directed by Maki Yi, it’s a bold, layered work about love, memory, and the legacies of colonialism.

FROM C.E. GATCHALIAN:
Many of you know my work — and some of you in Vancouver may remember the original production of Falling in Time back in 2011. The play was a critical and commercial success, later published in book form, and shortlisted for the prestigious Lambda Literary Award. Since then, I’ve revised the play considerably: this new version is much tighter and, I believe, even harder-hitting than the original. And yet, despite its recognition, Falling in Time has never had a Toronto production. Bringing it here has been a dream and a goal I’ve been working toward for well over a decade — and now, we are closer than ever to finally making it happen.
Before we bring Falling in Time to the stage in Toronto’s 2027–28 theatre season, we need to take a crucial first step: a Design Integration Workshop.
This is when our creative team comes together in person for the first time to explore how sound, light, set, costumes, surtitles, and cultural storytelling will work together — ensuring the production is as cohesive and impactful as possible.

Even small amounts can help! Here’s what your donation can do:
☕️ $10 = three coffees to keep ideas percolating
️$25 = design materials for the workshop
$50 = supports one day of design collaboration
No matter what we raise, this workshop will happen — but your support will determine how ambitious and complete it can be.
Why This Matters Now:
The more integrated our design work is at this early stage, the stronger and more efficient the full production will be in 2027–28. Every dollar you give now saves us time and resources later — and ensures Falling in Time is realized at its very best.
BE PART OF THE FOUNDING CIRCLE:
Because we are a collective and not a registered charity, we cannot provide tax receipts. However, all donors will be listed as Founding Supporters on our website and in the final production program (unless you prefer to remain anonymous, which is also totally fine). You’ll receive behind-the-scenes updates, rehearsal photos, and early peeks into how this unique play is being built.
Join us. Help us take this essential first step toward bringing Falling in Time to life.
