Help Launch Canada's First National Beaver Organization!

Beavers provide solutions to many of the biggest ecological challenges our society faces. They:
- Suppress forest fires
- Replenish aquifers
- Mitigate climate change
- Increase biodiversity
- Resist drought
- Stop flooding…and more.
They do all of this simultaneously and for FREE!
Despite these incredible services and the fact that beavers are Canada's national animal, Canada has never had a national organization dedicated to beavers, let alone beaver-based restoration and coexistence.
The closest thing that ever existed was the Hudson’s Bay Company…and they were about turning beavers into hats for Europeans.
It’s about time this changed and that Canada focused attention on creating nature-based solutions using one industrious and persistent engineer, the beaver.
Be a part of the beaver revolution!
What we will do
The national organization’s mission will be to promote practical, science-based approaches that support beavers in creating resilience for our human and wildlife communities.
Our initial priorities as an organization will be addressing policies, education and coexistence.
Coexistence: Many technical solutions exist that allow beavers to live where they want without causing trouble for landowners. These services need to be more widespread.
Policy: Currently, policies favor lethal solutions to beaver challenges over nonlethal options, such as installing pond-leveling devices or relocating beavers. This needs to be changed.
Education: There’s an incredible opportunity to help Canadians appreciate the services that beavers offer our communities – whether through zoos, elementary and secondary schools, walking tours of beaver ponds, and other ways to engage the public. We want all Canadians to get the memo!
How your support will help
We are currently raising funds to launch the organization. Funds will be dedicated to establishing the organization and advancing its mission, including
- Register the nonprofit
- Applies to the Canada Revenue Agency for charitable status
- Cover legal and administrative fees
- Launch initial programming (e.g., creating educational resources)
- Attend conferences and workshops
- Receive insurance coverage
- Build partnerships
- Create a logo, develop a website, and establish other communications
- Other developments that will make it possible to support beavers in what they do best.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 to start before we qualify for funding as a registered nonprofit.
If we do not reach our fundraising goal, financing will need to continue to come out of Julianna’s savings. Of course, that’s not ideal, so we hope that you will support us during this crucial stage!
We appreciate donations of all sizes! Even the smallest donations are important to show funders that people want this!
