Help Bring AnalogAssist2 — A Smarter Light Meter for Film Photographers — to Life
️ What Is AnalogAssist2?
AnalogAssist2 is a next-generation light-metering app designed for film photographers who love the craft of analog shooting but want the precision and speed of digital tools.
It turns your iPhone and Apple Watch into an intelligent exposure assistant — combining real-time metering, zonal analysis, and intuitive design to make every shot perfectly exposed.
Unlike traditional light meters that only read average brightness, AnalogAssist2 understands the scene.
It identifies subject and background regions, balances them dynamically, and even supports auto zonal metering — automatically dividing the scene into tonal zones to calculate a more balanced exposure.

Why I’m Building This
Film photography deserves modern tools that respect its simplicity.
Metering mistakes can ruin an entire roll, and most modern apps either oversimplify the process or feel disconnected from the analog experience.
I wanted to build something different — a meter that merges classic light-measurement principles with modern computing power, while keeping the workflow elegant and tactile.
AnalogAssist2 is built entirely in SwiftUI, AVFoundation, and on-device CoreML segmentation, with no cloud or external data — everything runs locally, fast, and privately.
⸻
What Makes It Special
• Auto Zonal Metering: Automatically divides the frame into exposure zones and balances tones intelligently.
• Smart Metering Modes: Choose between scene-average, zone-weighted, or subject-priority — all based on the 18% gray standard.
• Apple Watch Integration: See live exposure data, adjust ISO, and meter hands-free while shooting.
• Multi-Lens Support: Automatically switches between iPhone lenses for accurate field-of-view metering.
• Privacy-First: No cloud processing, no data collection — everything is computed on your device.
⸻
How Funds Will Be Used
Your support will directly help cover:
• Apple Developer Program annual fee (required to publish and maintain the app)
• Testing and optimization for iPhone and Apple Watch devices
• User interface polish and usability refinements
• App Store release and maintenance
I’m an independent developer — there’s no company or sponsor behind this.
Every contribution helps move this project closer to being available for all film lovers.
⸻
The Vision
My goal is to make film photography more accessible without taking away its soul.
AnalogAssist2 brings digital precision into the analog world — quietly, intelligently, and beautifully.
It’s not about automation, but assistance — a tool that helps you capture what your eyes and heart already see.
