Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, United States Marine... working at making the world a bit safer for all involved. Currently, I work in a different city every week, helping the Aerospace and Defense sectors fly safely. Over the years, I've discovered the need for another level of protection when someone finds themselves in unfamiliar circumstances, such as traveling alone, dating a new suitor, or just simply walking to your car late and in the dark.
I have been in all of these situations as well as participating in many adventure races, wildlife hikes, and participating in hazardous hobbies on the open ocean or in the wooded backcountry. You never know when a boat is ready to sink, or a brown bear has decided to charge!
All of these discoveries have led me to realize that with today's available technologies, a new phone app could greatly increase the ability of authorities to discover exactly What last happened to you, Who you may have been with, When, & Where, greatly increasing the chances for them to possibly save your life or at the very least, find your remains and discover who or what may have been involved in your demise.
According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons (NamUS) database, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, more than 600,000 people go missing annually. Approximately 4,400 unidentified bodies are recovered each year. Nationwide, there are roughly 6.5 missing persons for every 100,000 people.
www.FBI.gov reports - General domestic violence statistics. An average of 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States — more than 12 million women and men over the course of a single year.
What if there was a tool that may assist law enforcement in finding missing persons faster and potentially even keep them from becoming an unidentified body along the railroad tracks?
What if this tool could assist law enforcement in more quickly pinning down who the assailant is and get them charged and incarcerated before an assault progresses to a repeat offense or death?
What if a rapist could be tracked during the act of transporting someone to a place he has used many times?
Last-Known has the potential to do just that!
This App is different in that, when needed, it will Capture instantly on command & then automatically, send a data package to a data base (Your personal Vault), 4 critical pieces of information are included;
-4 pictures (1 Taken each second for 4 seconds).
-A 4 second audio file
-GPS Coordinates
-Date & Time stamp
All of this data is automatically and immediately zipped up into a data package and without ever taking any other actions, data pack is moved off the phone and into your Personal Vault. It can never be deleted by the user or anyone else, though a copy can be down loaded later when safe to do so. A bad guy cannot force the deletion of the data, cannot get rid of the evidence by destroying your phone!
If the data package is not needed by the end of the subscription term the user has chosen, it is automatically deleted by the data base, and has never been viewed.
However, if law enforcement authorities have sufficient cause, such as you are missing, or, have been discovered deceased, then the file of data captures will be turned over for them to begin their investigation. They now potentially have numerous starting points to begin with!
Users will have the choice of three different subscription packages to choose from which store data for 30 / 45 / or 60 days.
The App has two different modes of functionality:
The first mode of the Last-Known App, "ACQUIRE" - is used as a preventative deterrent, or "Just in Case"... imagine, a young college student has agreed to go on a date with a new social contact. She can say, lets have a first selfie, & "Capture" a data pack while saying "OK, Jimmy Felon, you are now in my "Vault" and if any thing happens to me...the authorities will be starting with your image, this GPS location, audio file and date & Time!
If he is a bad guy, he will most likely be retreating from the intended bad deed, and you will have learned an important image of that persons character!
If all goes well, no harm, no fowl as the data package simply auto deletes at the end of the selected subscribers term, such as 30 days.
The Second Mode "Bread Crumbing" - When all goes really bad, such as you are being held hostage, being stuffed into a trunk, or have broken a leg far off in the back country.
From the initial "Capture" screen, a quick swipe left and a triple tap captures all data just like the first mode and auto zips and sends just as before. Now two additional and critical functions kick in. First the app turns your "Vault" red in the Last-Known data base. This alerts the data base administrator that you are in some form of danger. Second, the app continues to send your GPS location every two minutes to the data base, until you feel safe and discontinue it with a safe pass key.
This mode is similar to dialing 911, and cannot be misused.
The data base administrator will begin investigating and will attempt to contact your personal "Advocate" which you assigned during account set up (your father, college roommate, best friend, or co-worker). If your advocate validates that you may be in trouble, are passed due for arrival or simply have gone missing and are non-responsive then the authorities in the area of your last GPS location will be contacted and advised you may be in trouble, and the data file will be provided to them to further investigate.
The funding raised for Last-Known.com, will be used for final coding of the App, initially for I-Phones, testing and tuning, establishment of monthly data base storage platform, initial social media advertising, and on-going maintenance by Builder.ai team of experts.
I personally believe that every father out there in the world wants their son / daughter / significant other, to have this available for their own piece of mind.
Those involved in initial contributions of $100 or more will have exclusive access to be a part of the testing team and provide feedback to enhance the App as well as three free months when the App goes live! Any investor contributing $250 or more will receive 6 free months after the App is live & a really cool T-shirt!!
Other potential uses:
-Driving down a busy freeway, and a possibly drunk, erratic driver is swerving in and out of lanes and speeding and tailgating, quickly and easily, capture a few data packs...up the road he has caused a huge accident to occur, you can pull over send the data packs to the authorities.
-A night out with the girls? You see your best friends husband out with someone other than his wife...Capture a few data packs to share later!
-Walking to your car late at night, hold your phone with app open and ready for any surprise events on the way.
-Daycare providers capture a data package, for all child pick - ups for evidence of control and to mitigate child abduction.
-Bar tenders capture evidence when fights break out.
-Users which are in the path of a hurricane / tornado capture a data package just prior to the storm hitting and ripping out all of the power & communication infrastructure.
-Active shooter situation - Acquire data package while saying "hiding in room 303"
I am determined to launch this new app within the next 6 months and begin helping others, help themselves!
