On Monday night, a sudden flood changed everything for my sister Latina and her household. The pipes in one of the bedrooms burst wide open due to the freezing temperatures in Philly, causing water to pour through the home and destroy many of their belongings. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the damage was devastating. The property management company has not provided the support or communication we desperately need. After a brief hotel stay, Latina and her family were told their home was uninhabitable and asked to remove all their belongings, with no further assistance or options for relocation.
Latina does not have renters insurance, and the costs of storage, temporary housing, and replacing essentials are overwhelming. She has reached out to local agencies and tenant associations, but immediate help is still out of reach. Right now, Latina and her household have nowhere safe to stay and no resources to start over.
We are asking for your support to help Latina find a safe place to stay, cover the costs of a hotel or Airbnb, and begin rebuilding after this emergency. Any donation, no matter the size, will make a difference and help them move forward. Thank you for reading and for any help you can give during this difficult time.
