Help Lashawnda Create R.D. Living, a Healing Home for Many

On June 2, 2022, I woke up to the gut wrenching and soul devastating call that my 24 year old son, Reggie Davis, had committed suicide. My world shattered. I had lost my baby, my oldest child, and my only son. From that moment, I was thrust into the journey of utter grief, anger, confusion, and eventual healing. My healing is a continuous process as life never takes a pause, even in the worst of circumstances. Slowly, I have felt God call me in a different direction - one that would transform my pain into purpose. My deepest and most heartbreaking experience is what inspired me to create a place for healing and restoration for those facing the same battles as my son had faced. Through RD Living, I aim to offer the support and help that he would’ve needed to others seeking hope and healing.

So, what is R.D. Living? Through immense prayer, God has called me to create and run R.D. Living, a transitional home created to serve individuals in need of community, healing, and restoration. These individuals will be recovering from homelessness, addiction, domestic violence or mental health challenges. Here at R.D. Living we do not discriminate based on your past. We are solely focused on giving you the space to heal to ensure that you have a healthy future.

The vision for R.D. Living is to provide a space for individuals to be given a second, third, even fifth chance at life. I believe that every person deserves a fresh start and a chance at true healing. Most of these men and women have had extremely difficult pasts and are in need of support and stability. R.D. Living will offer a safe space with wrap-around services that include therapy, psychiatric support, medication audits, and case management.

As someone who has 15+ years of experience in social services and who has served as an assistant director at a nonprofit organization, I am confident in my ability to lead with excellence. While serving at the nonprofit organization I led a team of case managers and supported over 200+ clients through their process of recovery. Over the years, I have developed a deep understanding of the challenges faced by individuals in vulnerable situations, such as those transitioning from homelessness, addiction recovery, or domestic violence. This experience has allowed me to create a compassionate and supportive environment where residents feel safe and empowered to rebuild their lives.

What's the need?

Through Gods goodness, I've been awarded a contract from one of San Diego's largest and most reputable mental health providers. This contract will allow me to open R.D. Living, honor my son's legacy, follow God's call, pursue this as a full time occupation AND impact hurting people in our community who desperately need a second chance.

However, in order to secure this contract, I need to secure a lease for a 6 bedroom, 3 bathroom house. The house will include: an onsite house manager, spacious kitchen area with lots of cabinet space for each guest to store their own personal items. There will also be a communal living and recreational area for the guests if they wish to watch tv or play games.

The good news- I have a landlord ready to lease me a property! But in order to secure a lease and furnish the home, I need to raise a total of $18,250. $4,750 is needed by this Friday, the 14th, for the security deposit and the remaining $13,500 by Friday, the 21st to make the home operational

This funding will cover the following;
Security Deposit: $4,750
  • required up front by the landlord to secure the lease. Monthly rent for the 6 bedroom home is $4,750 and one month of rent had already been committed by a generous donor.
Furniture $6,000
  • will furnish the 6 bedroom home and make it welcoming and safe for guests including bed frames and mattresses, dressers, kitchen table and chairs, couches, living room furniture, decor, and patio furniture.
Housing Supplies $2,000,
  • to provide all housing supplies needed for a comfortable home including pots, pans, bedding, towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, hygiene items, etc. for incoming guests
Appliances $3,000
  • refrigerators, washer and dryers, microwave, toaster, etc.
Security cameras and installation: $2,500
  • Will ensure a safe, accountable environment for all guests

No gift is too small and every little bit helps to make this dream, safe haven and Reggie's legacy a reality.

While the timeline is urgent, I'm trusting the Lord's timing completely and am so grateful for you, my friends, family and supporters. Thank you in advance for making this vision come to life.

Will you give today and be a founding member of R.D. Living?

Thank you!
