Help Larry Save His Home & Repair it!

Hello!

I am Larry Shell and have had a very difficult time the past few years. I hate to ask for help and had hoped things would improve in 2024-25 but this year, thus far, has proven to be an extremely hard time for my brother and I, medically and financially.

I badly need to raise funds to pay my overdue property taxes before our house is put up for tax sale by the town that I reside in. I have received notification of this from the tax office.

I need to raise $6,000 USD for taxes alone. We need to pay the amount due for property taxes in full by the end of Summer or I and my brother, who lives with me, may not have a place to live.

I also have to do some necessary home repairs which the township has taken me to court over several times and fined me. The main one being completely rebuilding the front porch which is in a serious state of disrepair and unsafe. I’ve been quoted a cost of 15k for the job!

We’ve needed to replace our stove for over 6 months and our 27-year-old car needs to be replaced as the repair cost has become prohibitive.

We’ve had great difficulty living on our Social Security checks (our sole income) and some weeks do not have enough to buy groceries. We are periodically harassed by the town we live in due to the condition of our house which I was recently ordered to appear in court about and fined for multiple violations. In addition, Hurricane Ida flooded our basement causing the need to replace several expensive appliances including the water heater, washer and dryer. Only the water heater was replaced.

Our financial situation is exacerbated by health issues we have been dealing with over the past ten+ years. I and my brother are both disabled seniors. I have diabetes, glaucoma, migraines, arthritis in both knees and had two spinal surgeries in the past 10 years. My brother had a small stroke and suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes and other ailments. Our sole income is our monthly Social Security checks.

I (Larry) have been involved in comic books since the 1970's. I was a publisher and editor, packaged several comic books, wrote a story for Heavy Metal magazine, published a number of trading card sets and was the Director of Publications for the late, great Heroes World Distribution for 10 years, the last 2 years as part of Marvel Comics Marketing department. I have also worked as a publishing consultant and a rep for a number of artists and collectors for original art sales until my health issues made me retire for the most part.
