Help Larry Kincheloe

Hey all, Larry's nephew Bram Kincheloe here.

A few months ago, our uncle/brother/friend/portal-of-chaos Larry Kincheloe was visiting our families here in upstate New York. While at his brother John's house in the Catskills—and while listening to some beautiful new songs from his niece Arleigh Kincheloe—he stood up, took a nasty spill, and shattered his femur. He was brought to the local hospital in Margaretville, where they quickly realized they could not handle the scope of his injuries. He was airlifted to Westchester, NY, where he underwent emergency surgery. At first, his injuries (as serious as they were) were thought to be even worse. The doctors thought they would have to replace his hip on that side as well, but luckily did not have to once they began the surgery.

After being released from the hospital, he was transferred to a rehabilitation facility in Beacon, NY, where he has been for the last few months. He has completely committed to his rehab, and is now walking without a walker, tackling some stairs from time to time, and surprising us all with his resilience and commitment to the work.

However, Medicare only covered the stay for the first 30 days. His MediCal (California Medicaid) will not cover the remainder, as he was hurt out of state. I was able to successfully get him switched over to NY Medicaid, but the entire month of October was not covered as we waited for the termination of MediCal. The opacity and frustratingly uncoordinated reality of our American medical system is an entirely other conversation, but unfortunately Larry got trapped right in the middle of that.

To that end, we are aiming to raise $7,500 minimum to cover not only his part of the stay in the rehabilitation center, but also his day-to-day expenses as he focuses on his outpatient rehab and quite literally getting back on his feet. Obviously, anything you can give is appreciated. Please share as widely as possible, not only to raise money for our guy, but also to let people know where he's been and what's been going on.

Thank you, and please reach out with any questions!
Bram
