Help Larry beat Covid

Have you ever met somebody with a heart of gold? You can sense it before they say a word. You can see it in their eyes and and in the way people look up to them. Larry is one of these people.

 

I met him when we were both about 5 years old and his family was in crisis. His life was difficult from the start but you would never know that based on any interactions you had with him. He greeted everybody with a smile, a handshake or a hug. He would go out of his way to help anybody who needed it. I've experienced that firsthand on many occasions.

 

Eventually, the chaos in his life abated and, by a rare stroke of immeasurable good fortune, he married his wife Nicole, a nurse with an equally out-sized heart and capacity for caring. Nicole and Larry have done an amazing job raising their combined families, providing a warm, loving home with the stability and comfort that eluded Larry in early life.

 

Now, Larry finds himself fighting for his life with severe covid pneumonia. He has been hospitalized since late October and is currently on life support. He has a good chance of surviving but will spend at least another two months in the hospital before he starts the long road towards rehabilitation.

 

Larry was careful in the choices he made to protect himself and his family but Covid found him nonetheless. Like so many others, he discovered that he was much more vulnerable then he ever imagined.

 

Fortunately, he is surrounded by people who love him and will do whatever they can to support him in his darkest hours. He was recently moved to a much better facility in Philadelphia but that puts him at great distance from his family.

 

To help with the immediate need of supporting family caregivers, I am asking for donations, despite their reluctance. These funds will be used to help with travel expenses, respite, meals and general support. Any remaining funds will be put towards medical expenses which will no doubt be significant.

 

I have never done a fundraising campaign before. I say with all sincerity that there is no one who deserves this more than Larry.
