I was in school for Nursing when I contracted COVID-19 in August 2021. I was working as well in a nursing home. Had it not been for it, I was put into a medically induced coma. They pronounced me dead and put me on life support and the ventilator. For about 2 months, I came out of the coma and was able to be taken off the ventilator. I was taking therapy to learn how to walk and talk again. I was sent home in December of 2021. I went home and had nurse care for months. I had to have the tubing from the ventilator taken off through surgery. I was at home for 3 months and went back to working with dementia patients. When I got off, I was walking to the bus stop and my lungs collapsed. I was hospitalized again. I had lung therapy. I had to give up my dream of being a nurse because I was on portable and home oxygen. So, I decided to go back to school for the business side of the health field that I love so much. I signed up for a Bachelor's in Business Administration with a concentration in Health Administration at Strayer University. My funds were over except for my Pell Grant, which is only $1,800 every quarter. I just found this out after registering for my fall courses. I owe $2,767.36, so it has to be paid before I can register for my winter courses. My graduation date is August of 2027, and I don't have enough funds to complete my courses. I am not working and have been looking for work, but it hasn't happened yet. So now, I am a woman looking for a job and funds to complete this task. I am 64 years old and am in online school. I have been on the Dean's List for the entire time I've been in school. I need help so that I can complete this dream of walking across the stage with honors to complete this task of helping others in the health industry. I also need money to fly wherever they are having the graduation so my family can come and see me graduate with honors. I am in 2 societies: Phi Theta Kappa and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. It's too late to put in for scholarships from them. This is my story. I am on disability and SSI.
Best regards,
LaRita Green
