This past Saturday, January 6th, an ordinary day turned tragic for Laraine Stuart, 84, while working at her clients home she tripped and fell hitting the back of her head. She tried to get up then passed out hitting her head twice leaving her unconscious which resulted in a critical head injury. She was urgently rushed to the hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, where she began a grueling battle of survival for her life and underwent a brain angiogram — a procedure where dye is injected to visualize the blood vessels and seal up potential sources of future bleeding. This new procedure was risky but she had no choice but to do it.
For five days, she remained in ICU and it
was unclear if she would even survive.
While we remain hopeful and await further updates about the condition of the blood that remains in her brain, we are fervently praying that she won't require an additional procedure to drain it. Despite the tremendous challenges, Laraine is now cognitive and beginning the slow process of healing, yet she remains bedridden and faces a minimum recovery period of 2 to 3 months, where she will be unable to work and will require caregivers once she is able to be at her home.
Nicole and Laraine have received many calls and messages asking to send flowers or also asking how they can help... and anyone who has ever met Laraine knows that she is a true godsend, always going above and beyond to help others. She has spent her life taking care of elderly people. She raised me like her own son from a very young age and has been a steadfast presence in my life. She has also made Cecilia feel like family and has been a positive influence in both of our lives. Which is why we decided to do this campaign, as it is our way of paying it forward as she has shown me love and care throughout my entire life. Cecilia and myself ask that you please consider making any amount of donation to help alleviate the immense strain placed on Laraine and her family at this time in lieu of flowers and in response to what you can do to help.
Through all of this, we've been reminded of the power of community and the comfort it can bring in times of distress. So, we're reaching out to ask for your continued support. Please keep Laraine and her family in your thoughts. Your well-wishes and contributions, no matter how big or small, will help Laraine with her quickly increasing medical costs get the assistance she needs to heal and recover over the next 3 months and help get her back to her life!
