Many of you have followed Lara’s story for the last seven years. You’ve watched her fight, recover, hope and keep going through everything cancer has thrown at her.
I’ve been beside her through all of it.
Seven years ago, Lara was diagnosed with uveal melanoma — in the very same year we had planned to get married.
We had a future planned. But cancer changed everything.
Our wedding was put on hold because suddenly life became about treatment, scans and simply getting through each day.
For seven years, Lara has fought to get back to living her life.
And now we have been given the news we feared most.
The cancer has spread to her liver.
She is now classed as stage 4 and has been told that, at this stage, she cannot be cured.
In March, Lara had an ablation to treat a liver tumour. We desperately hoped it would be enough.
It wasn't.
Within just three months, there are now further tumours in her liver. She is considered at high risk of further metastatic spread, and we don't feel we have time on our side.
At 41, Lara has also had to face something that breaks my heart.
She always hoped to be a mum. But knowing what she is facing now, she doesn't feel it would be fair to risk passing on this horrible disease and making them live through the same nightmare.
Cancer has taken that choice away from her too.
We are trying to raise £120,000 to fund a course of Delcath liver-directed chemotherapy saturation treatment
The £120,000 would cover a course of three treatments.
One of the hardest things for us to accept is that although conventional chemotherapy is available through the NHS for many cancers, Lara's cancer is so rare that the treatment she needs isn't being funded for her through the NHS.
She has paid her National Insurance and contributed to this country all her working life. We never imagined that when she desperately needed help, we'd have to try to raise £120,000 privately simply because her cancer is so rare.
I know £120,000 is an enormous amount of money.
But we're not asking for a promise of a cure.
We're asking for time.
Let me tell you about Lara
Lara has worked for Aldi for 15 years. She’s incredibly hardworking and loves making everyone their morning coffee. Her colleagues even gave her a plaque in the canteen: “Laraccino’s Coffee Shop Corner.” ❤️
If you met Lara, you probably wouldn't realise how frightened she is.
She smiles.
She jokes.
She makes other people laugh.
That's Lara.
She has this incredible ability to make everyone else feel better, even when she is the one who is hurting.
She doesn't like burdening people with her problems.
So when she is scared, she makes a joke.
When she is struggling, she smiles.
When she is worried about what the next scan might show, she tries to make everyone around her laugh.
She does it because she wants to protect the people she loves from the pain and fear that she carries herself.
She is also one of the kindest people I know.
She loves animals more than almost anything in this world.
And she is absolutely terrified of spiders and wasps but still won't hurt them.
I've lost count of the number of times I've been called away from whatever I was doing because there was a “HUGE” spider in the house — usually about the size of a breadcrumb
Which means, naturally, that I have spent 20 years being Lara's official spider and wasp removal service.
But seriously, I cannot imagine my life without her.
Lara loves living. She loves her family, her friends, her dogs, travelling, laughing and all the ordinary little things that make life worth living.
She still has so much she wants to do.
We want the wedding we never had.
We want more memories, more adventures, more laughter and simply more time together.
Death terrifies her because she loves living.
And I'm not ready to lose her.
If there is a chance that this treatment can buy Lara more time, we have to try.
So please help us fight.
If you can donate, no matter how small, you will be helping us get closer to the treatment Lara desperately needs.
And if you can't donate, please share this. You never know who might see it, who might know someone who can help, or how far one share could take us.
Please help me buy time with the woman I love.
Because Lara isn't ready to leave.
And neither am I.

Disclaimer ;
My hope and intention is to use the money raised towards Lara's treatment. However, if for any reason she's unable to proceed with the treatment, whether because we don’t reach the full amount needed or because her health deteriorates, any funds raised will be used to explore other potentially suitable treatments or options abroad.
