Help Lanise Recover From ATV Accident

Hi friends and family! My girlfriend, Lanise Whitt, was seriously injured in an ATV accident here in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on April 5th. I'm writing to you today with a heavy heart, but also with immense gratitude for the outpouring of support we've already received.

The conditions were super dusty with bad visibility. I watched her fall off her ATV in front of me - then it flipped over, crushing her. Everything was in slow motion. When I ran up to her, she was unconscious, face turning purple, then she finally woke up after a minute or so. The longest and scariest minute of my life. She suffered a collapsed lung, 2 broken ribs + others fractured, requiring emergency surgery to restore the lung. A chest tube was inserted to drain excess air, blood, and fluid, allowing her lung to re-expand. The surgery was successful, but her recovery will be a long and challenging journey. She remained hospitalized for five days under close observation, with the chest tube in place until the day before her discharge. (I’ll spare the gory details)

She’s now recovering at the hotel here in Mexico and is in high spirits with a super positive, determined attitude. The doctor said we need to stay for a few weeks after the surgery - flying before then is too risky, given the fragility of her lungs and the potential for another collapse - so we’ll be here until we get clearance (after another scan) to return home for continued medical care.
