Help Lane Fight Seizures

Our 8-month-old baby, Lane, has been through more than any child should ever have to face—and every parent's worst nightmare. Since December, Michael and I have been searching for answers as Lane began showing seizure-like activity. One night, we rushed him to our local ER in Bakersfield, and he was soon transported by ambulance to Valley Children’s Hospital Madera for further evaluation. There, Lane underwent MRIs, CT scans, and countless tests. Doctors and neurologists initially reassured us that these episodes weren’t seizures, but possibly harmless movements. After three days, we were able to bring Lane home, but our worries never truly left.

Over the following months, Lane continued to have strange eye movements and other symptoms that just didn’t feel right. Despite our concerns, nothing alarming was found. Then, at the end of March, everything changed—Lane began having full-blown seizures. We got him to a neurologist right away, and he was prescribed medication and scheduled for an EEG. Before we could return for more tests, Lane’s seizures became constant, sometimes happening every 30 minutes and lasting up to five minutes. I rushed him to Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield, where he received emergency medicine and was again transported by ambulance to Valley Children’s Hospital Madera. Just as we thought things were improving, Lane suffered another severe seizure and was rushed to the PICU, where he is currently receiving close care. Despite changes in medication and the incredible PICU team, Lane continues to have seizures, and we are still waiting for more tests and answers about what’s causing them.

Michael and I have not left Lane’s bedside. While I have taken a leave of absence from work, Michael now has to return home for work and to care for our daughter, Charlotte. With me unable to work, and the financial strain from lost income, travel, lodging, meals, and uncertain next steps, the stress and fear continues to grow. Donations will help us cover Lane’s medical bills, lost income from time away from work, travel expenses for the three-hour drive between home and the hospital, lodging, meals, and basic living costs during this uncertain time. Any support or donation, no matter the size, would mean the world to our family as we navigate this difficult journey with Lane. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers, and for helping us stay strong for our Laney boy.
