Final Update July 2024:
It is with the heaviest heart that we bring the news of Landy's passing. Landy fought one hell of a fight, all the way until the end. He was and will forever be our champion.
August 19, 1962 ~ July 23, 2024
Landy leaves behind a legacy, one filled with laughter, love, adventures, sweet hugs to his grandchildren, strong advice and guidance to his children, amazing support to his wife, beautiful memories with his brother, devotion to his entire family & those he met along the way, and finally, endless stories to be told for many years to come. Landy will always be alive in our hearts. Thank you all for your emotional support, for your contributions, for your thoughts and prayers; they will never be forgotten. Neither will our Landy.
We love you all.

UPDATE DECEMBER 2023:
We come baring news we wish had taken another path, but remain strong by Landy's side. Unfortunately, after Landy's recent Pet scan and other tests, it was discovered that his cancer has spread, rapidly and intensely. He has progressed from the initial findings of esophageal cancer to a journey much more difficult than anyone thought he'd have to encounter. We are doing everything that we can to ensure Landy gets all the treatment he possibly can have/want to have. There is a facility in Arizona that we'd like to get him to, if at all possible. We plead you all, if there is anything you can spare, it will go a long way towards Landy's wellbeing, and to aide his family during this difficult time. thank you all and may our thoughts and prayers be heard.
Love the Mainegras.
UPDATE as of October 2023:
Dear Friends and Family,
It brings me joy to share with you a short update: Landy has completed his Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy! He has been able to eat a variety of foods and has not had an incident since his unfortunate one back in August that, fortunately, led to the discovery of his cancer in the first place. The next phase is to do another thorough check on the status of the cancer (CT's, Pet Scans, Etc.), and finally enter surgical discussions. He continues to have the spirit of a dragon, fighting this with all his might.
I will continue to provide you all with his progress, but know this, we will forever be thankful for your kindness and empathy during these difficult times. For those that have reached out to him and offered your words of encouragement we THANK YOU! Every single moment and interaction counts.
With Love,
The Mainegras
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Luis Orlando Mainegra, better known as Landy, is probably a name you might recognize. His friendship reaches the entire Eastern Coast. He's an incredible father, grandfather, husband, uncle, brother, you name it. If you have the pleasure of knowing him, i'm sure you immediately picture his amazingly badass beard and long hair, his pleasantly extroverted personality, and you might even recall some of his hilarious stories.
On one of his return routes to his home in Florida on his truck, he had stopped for a quick bite. Soon he didn't feel well, like something was lodged in his throat. After the feeling did not reside, he decided to stop at a local Emergency Room. It was here, at 2am, that a doctor came to his room with a dreadful discovery. Landy was diagnosed with esophageal cancer.
Things have quickly progressed and thankfully, Landy has found a great medical practice that is moving him along this incredibly difficult journey with swift action. Landy has begun chemotherapy and will also undergo radiation therapy. It is estimated that after 12 weeks of these therapies, Landy will be prepared for surgery. While his and our hope is that these therapies might reduce the cancer located at the bottom of his esaphagus, it is still very likely he will undergo surgery.
Here's where all of you come in. Besides the extrenious physical and mental war that Landy is battling, he and his family are also navigating through current bills, the thought of the additional chemo and radiation therapies, PT, medical equipment and special dietary requirements that are yet to come. Insurance is capping out and pockets are now being emptied.
We plead you, our friends, family, loved ones and everything in between, if you can spare anything, we'd be eternally grateful. All proceeds will go directly to Landy's related expenses, as noted above.
From all of us, thank you for opening your heart and helping us as we help Landy get through this. We love you all so much.
