Meet Lando (They/Them). Lando is a Black, Queer, Nonbinary, Neurodivergent Immigrant, who is currently houseless, soon to be unemployed, and living in a totaled vehicle in Government Camp, Oregon. If you asked Lando to define themselves, they would say "I'm a snowboarder".
All that Lando wants is an opportunity to shred. They used the last of their savings to get up to Oregon for a summer on Mt Hood , and they will be staying this winter. Lando's last job up in Govy enabled them to ride for free a few days a week, but it's a seasonal position, and the wages weren't enough to enable them to rent a home, get a working vehicle, or purchase a season pass.
Snowsports Community: We talk about Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity all the time. Now it's time for us to show up. If you haven't met Lando up on the volcano, let me be the first to tell you, they are the most sweet, kind, and passionate snowboarder you've ever met. The sacrifices that they've made to pursue snowboarding are unmatched. Lando is the heart of what our community should be.
Our goals are as follows:
- Secure Lando a van or other vehicle to outfit for living and traveling in as they pursue their snowboard dreams
- Help to afford passes and gear for the season
- Get them temporary housing while they search for a van and relocate down to the Portland area, to begin working a new job
- Our goal is to get Lando the funds to relocate into a safe, accomadating setup by November 1st
If you've spent a weekend in Govy, you know that it's a little rough around the edges. Lando has spent the whole summer up there, without means of transportation, walking to work, riding the bus up to the mountain, and sleeping in the back seat of their totaled car. They deserve so much better, and our community can make that happen. Let's do this.
