Our beautiful boy Lancelot was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Saturday and suffered a serious fracture to his femur.

If you know Lancelot from Instagram, you'll know what a special little character he is. He has brought so much joy to our family and to the wonderful community on Instagram that has followed his adventures.

After being rushed to the emergency vet, we were incredibly relieved to learn that there were no internal injuries. His femur, however, was badly broken and required orthopaedic surgery.

We are so happy to be able to tell you that Lancelot is now out of surgery ❤️‍ His surgeon repaired his broken femur using pins, and he is now home with his family.

Because Lancelot is still young and has open growth plates, the injury was more complicated than it would have been in an older dog. His recovery will also be a long one. He will need approximately six weeks of strict confinement to allow his leg to heal properly, along with medication, follow-up veterinary care and plenty of patience while he gets back on his feet.

The estimated cost of his emergency treatment, surgery and care is approximately $9,000 AUD, including his emergency veterinary visit over the weekend.

We are incredibly fortunate that we are able to cover Lancelot's treatment ourselves, and we will make sure he receives everything he needs. We are not asking for help because we cannot afford to care for him.

Instead, after sharing what happened on Lancelot's Instagram, we were completely overwhelmed by the incredible response. Tens of thousands of people have viewed his updates, and thousands of you have taken the time to leave messages of love, support and encouragement. So many people have asked whether there is something they can do to help so we've created this fundraiser to give those who would like to contribute an opportunity to be part of Lancelot's recovery.

Any money raised will go towards Lancelot's veterinary treatment and recovery, including his emergency care, surgery, hospital stay, medication, follow-up appointments and rehabilitation.
