Hi, my name is Lana. I am 28 years old, and I suffered a sudden spinal injury resulting in emergency surgery which then spiraled into a horrific medical experience.
I am starting this donation, not because I want to, but because I've reached a point where I'm realizing how extensive my recovery is becoming.
Early September I woke up with a backache that made me paralyzed by week 3. By October, I was taken to ER where I was diagnosed with 4 herniated discs, spondylitis , osteoporosis , and spinal stenosis. We attempted a steroid epidural to avoid surgery Thursday October 30th after many other attempts in hospital. My body reacted horribly. And the next day the epidural blew up in my back due to my spinal stenosis. Resulting in emergency surgery Saturday November 1st. My 90 minute surgery turned into 9 hours. 2 inch incision turned into an 11 inch incision. Many many blood transfusions later, I woke up to a nurse threatening me….
i returned to the hospital via ambulance mid January with a broken spine at L3 and all discs we worked on herniated again after only two months. And add S1. And Disc Degenerative Disease.
I then returned to inpatient physical therapy again. Where I ended up in withdrawl because the extensive medication I was put on was very difficult to arrive to the facility. I didn’t have my medication for 5 days. I was in withdrawl for 3. Resulting in vigorous shaking. Neverending. For 5 weeks. There is so much more to my story. It just gets worse… and I don’t qualify for disability…
I have exhausted my savings these 2 months paying rent and a few medical supplies I needed immediately.
With that being said, I have plenty more medical supplies, including my wheelchair, walker, adjustable bed, bathtub transfer chair, handicap railings in my home, possible wheelchair ramp installed, etc., all I need before I can come home.
And I hate asking for help. But here I am.
So to all of those who are able, I am forever grateful.
