Help Lamar Myers Regain His Independence

My name is Kathy Holmes.
I am reaching out on behalf of my friend and former patient, LAMAR MYERS.

Since a car accident in left him quadriplegic at age 16, Lamar has lived by the motto "stay strong and make the best of it."
He was one of the first patients to be admitted to the newly opened Methodist Rehab Center. He brought the same can-do spirit into therapy that had previously made him a standout high school athlete.

"When I started therapy, it was rough," he said. "But I loved it. I was learning to be independent. My life was about to open up".

His hard work in therapy earned him an opportunity to become a PBX operator at MRC upon completion of his rehabilitation program. His devotion to the center over the years since is legendary. From a nearby apartment, he initially rolled to work in his power wheelchair whether it was raining or snowing. "I had a job, and I had to get there," he said. He could have stayed home and rightfully gotten disability, but instead he remained a hard-working employee for 44 years!

He went on to become a husband, father, advocate for people with disabilities. The 70-year-old has long relied on his own wheelchair accessible van to get him where he needed to be. Unfortunately, earlier this year, his 2007 Chevy van was totaled in an accident.

As a retiree now, Lamar doesn't have the resources to buy another van.
That's why I hope you'll join me to raise $30,000 toward the purchase of a replacement van so that he can regain the independence he fought so hard to gain!
