I am reaching out to you today on behalf of my friends Lamar and Courtney Jones. Both Lamar and Courtney (married 6 years) have been outstanding contributions to our society. Lamar worked 18+ years for the railroad and decided to start a business with Courtney. Courtney also decided to start a new career in transportation as of recent. Lamar is a hard worker; he is kind and loving to his family. He helped Courtney raise her daughter. He is a best friend to many and has always been there when others were in need. Courtney loves her husband unconditionally, she has taken “in sickness and in health” to a level that is inspiring. She has put all of her needs aside and has been by his side, but she is also struggling physically and emotionally.
About 9 months ago (August of 2023) Lamar and Courtney’s life took a dramatic turn as Lamar was rushed to the I.C.U. while working out of town. Upon arriving from the next flight Courtney could get, she was told Lamar had a chronic autoimmune disorder called I.T.P. This stands for Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura. From August until October Lamar visited the I.C.U. many times due to complications with high dose steroids to combat the I.T.P.
In November of 2023 the I.T.P. had finally come under control, however he was ordered to keep taking the high dose steroids. This caused visits to the doctor for pain in the abdomen, until one day Courtney came home and found her husband in severe pain and took him to the emergency room. After 11 hours of waiting for treatment on November 20, 2023, Lamar had to have emergency trauma surgery. This was the 1st of many surgeries that he had to save his life.
Lamar has had a total of 7 surgeries and has up to 2 to 4 more ahead, all stemming from complications dealing with chronic diverticulitis, necrotic abdomen tissues, non-healing abdomen wound, chronic malnutrition, G. I., vocal cord abscess, etc. During this process Lamar has been transferred to 4 different hospitals.
His wife Courtney slept every night at the hospital and only left to go work and return to his side. She has tried to do what she could to keep up with the bills, however this is hard to do when reduced down to one income. To make matters worse, the doctor told Courtney it would be in Lamar's best interest if she took off work for at least a month. He explained that they had done all they could for him, and it was critical for her to help Lamar around the clock.
Courtney made a decision to put her husband first and after only 2 weeks of her giving him the extra care needed Lamar has shown a vast improvement. Even after being bedridden for 6 months, 5 surgeries, transferred to 4 hospitals, dealing with poor bedside manner, and a multitude of bad attitudes, I am very pleased to say Lamar and Courtney have endured through it all. Lamar has been cleared from the hospital to be transferred to another facility to work on intensive physical therapy before he is able to go home. I know he will do well because although tired, Lamar never gave up and has fought through hell. He has already literally begun to take his first steps in months.
As you can imagine their finances have taken a tremendous hit with the sudden loss of not 1 but 2 incomes. It is in this time of need when they have given and done all they can, where we as a community should come together and raise funds. They have enough to worry about besides finances, I’m asking that everyone please give what you can to support these 2 beautiful souls. They are doing their part, now let’s do ours.
This Fundraiser was Created by Brandon Wilson, Vameca Wheeler Ballenger, and Daisy Esparza. The entire collection of funds will be transferred directly into the account of Lamar and Courtney Jones.
