11/24/25 Update on Mama. She is making some progress. But I want to severely emphasize SOME. She has regained some motor function in her hands, constantly working and practicing opening and closing her hands. It’s still very much a struggle, but I was esctatic to see her be able to actually hold a fork without assistance or a gripper.

Friday, she was able to sit up with her feet on the ground unassisted for 5 minutes with PT. She still has a lot of numbness and partial paralysis in her legs. She is able to somewhat move them with a lot of concentration, but muscle memory is at a zero. When visiting, I am constantly having to help move her legs back to a more comfortable position as she doesn’t have any strength to keep them in position.

Throughout all of this, I am once again reminded of the village that we have. The many people who have asked about her, prayed over her, sent good vibes her way, and helped out in anyway they could. Yall have given peace of mind in a very stressful situation, especially when there are a lot of questions that still remain unanswered. Thank you so much

Update on Mama 11/18/25: she was released from the hospital this past friday to Regency hospital for rehab. Yesterday, they got her in the chair. She has PT three times a week and will be able to go in the chair every day with the nurses. I spoke with the coordinator here and once she reaches a certain point in recovery, she will no longer qualify for Regency OR if her health Insurance decides to no longer cover it, then she will have to be released to another facility. It’s up in the air right now of when and where that will be. She still does not have good use of her hands, so if you call and she does not answer just try again later. I’m reading all of her texts to her and letting her know about all the comments. She wanted me to let everyone know that she is so thankful for everyone’s prayers, thoughts, checking ins, all of it.

Update on mama 11/13/25: the weekend was rough, but I do have some good news.

Saturday, mama wasn’t feeling well and called the nurse in and while the nurse was checking her vitals, her BP went down to 60/40 and then bottomed out. She passed out and woke up to the chaos with nurses and the crash cart. They did CTs with contrast to make sure she didn’t suffer a stroke, heart attack or develop a blood clot, but all was okay. There is some fluid build up in her lungs and I know she is doing breathing exercises for that.

Sunday, my brother and sister in law went and visited and I know that helped a lot but an hour after they left, her mental status declined. She eventually did calm down and called that night and understood that the things that happened were irrational.

She did speak with a chaplain this week and her friend went up to visit. I haven’t been able to get up there this week with both kids sick. She did also get to spend some time with a therapy dog and that helped a lot.

Today, for the first time since November 2nd, with the assistance of PT, she was able to stand. She pushed herself as much as she could with PT and OT and when I talked to her about it, she sounded almost 100% her normal self. Today just may have been the push she needed to change her outlook. She was so optimistic about the future, I couldn’t help but to be happy with her.

We still do not fully know what happened or why this happened, but her attitude is key to her success in recovery and today was a big one. When I spoke to her later this afternoon, she said that her leg was spasming. As much as I don’t want her in pain, this is a very good thing. She’s getting more and more feeling back in her legs and the spasm means that her legs are trying to work.

She’s still in the hospital, but I spoke with a coordinator at a rehab facility who will accept her, but they need to submit it to insurance. Please pray, send the good vibes, the good juju that this will work out.

Thank you to ever since person who has helped with the go fund me so far. Your contributions took care of my mother’s monthly expenses for the month of November. I’m going to continue to share so that hopefully we can get December covered too. I appreciate everyone of you!

Update 11/7/25: It is a lot, but i will be brief and touch up on the main points.

—Mama had surgery three days ago to remove the Seroma(fluid pocket) and a drain inserted.
—They did cultures on the fluid drained and though nothing came back, as precaution, they will be putting in a PICC line for IV antibiotics for 3 weeks with weekly bloodwork and then will assess if it’s still needed for an additional 3-6 weeks.
—She has partial paralysis in her legs and feet and has loss of motor function in her hands, arms, and shoulders. It is unknown what exactly has caused this. It is also unknown whether this is permanent but we are hopeful that this is just temporary.
—She was not mentally aware for a bit, but after we came together and got some meds taken away, she is definitely more alert. I had asked some people to not call her, but now that she is alert, if you want to, please do it will help her spirits. But just know that she may not be able to get her hands to cooperate enough to answer.
—She will be in the hospital for a while. One doctor said about 2 weeks and then will be released to rehab facility after that.

Please continue to pray, send good vibes, all of it. She’s afraid that she will be like this forever and it’s hard to not have the answers for her right now.

Update 11/2/2025: I wish I could provide a better update on mama’s status. The first week after mama’s surgery, she was doing well. She was in pain but was able to manage it and she was moving around, albeit, slowly. Over last weekend, the pain started getting worse and she started to feel tingling in her legs with one being worse than the other and Monday and Tuesday of last week, they started going numb. I took her to the doctor on Tuesday where they explained that could happen as the nerves are “waking up” but that X-rays looked good and everything appeared normal. By Thursday, she called me crying because her legs were completely numb and she was having shortness of breath. We made the decision for her to go to the ER, and I called an ambulance because she was not confident she could make it, walking on her own to my car. They took her to Macon, to Navicent Health where she’s been since then.

Thursday to Friday, she had a better night and was able to get some relief from the pain and was able to rest. Unfortunately, Friday night was a different story. The on call doctor, Dr. Janssen Williams refused to give her any pain medicine, believing her to be drug seeking. In her attempt to try and get into a comfortable position, she fell out of the bed where she then laid screaming for help for the next 30 minutes. I knew none of this until she called me at 4am, after they had came to get her up and still not giving her any pain meds, crying and asking me to call the main line because the call button wasn’t put where she could get it and she had been screaming for help to try to get some relief from the pain that had now been exacerbated from falling. I called the main line, the 24 hour line, and let it ring for 15 minutes and no one ever came to the line. They did finally go back in there and gave her something, and did CTs of her head and back to make sure she didn’t have any additional injuries from the fall. The nursing staff told her the doctor’s refusal and also said he’s notorious for not responding when they call for patients…. I’ll be getting the medical records and filing a formal complaint with both the hospital and the medical board.

Saturday to today has been better. A different doctor on the day shift prescribed a pain management of oral meds every 6 hours(the same thing her regular doctor prescribed post surgery). She did fall out of the bed again yesterday but a nurse was in the room with her and I received a phone call after she was settled back in the bed. I never got a phone call about the first fall.

There has been talks of when she is well enough to releasing her to a rehab facility. She and I both think this is the best solution, until she is well enough to be back on her own. But this setback is going to cause her to be even longer without a working income, and that is adding a lot of stress to everything that she already has going on.

Some of you may know, but my mom is Semi retired and is on a fixed income. Which is typically fine, but when something comes up, it throws a wrench in the monthly bills.

Now, is that something. Mama is scheduled for a L3-5 fusion on October 17th. She will be out of work for a minimum of 4 weeks. Due to being out of work, she will not have a second income. I’m asking for help to get her through the initial recovery phase so that her bills don’t get behind.
Any money received will help with her monthly bills for the first 4-6 weeks that she is out of work. Any remaining funds will help out when she has to take off for follow up Appointments, physical therapy, etc. since she does not get PTO.

I know we are all on a tight budget, especially with the economy the way it is. Any little bit helps and goes a long way. Thank you in advance!
