My friend Laken is 29 years old…a wife, a mother of two, and a woman who has always shown up for her family, no matter what. Her family of four lived in a 900-square-foot home: one bedroom, one closet, one bathroom. All four of them slept in the same room, not because they didn’t dream bigger, but because they were working toward their dream of something bigger, where each kid had their own bedroom and closet, and more than one bathroom. They built slowly, sacrificed, and always stayed grateful. It wasn’t perfect, but it was home.
On Thursday, February 12, 2026, everything changed. It was an ordinary night—backpacks unpacked, dinner eaten, baths done, pajamas on. Her son ran into the bedroom and said, “Mama, there’s a fire.” Within minutes, flames were to the ceiling. There was no time to think, no time to grab photos or keepsakes, no time to process what was happening. They grabbed their babies and ran. By the grace of God, they made it out alive, but the house did not. Everything burned: the bed where bedtime stories were read, the kitchen table where meals were shared, the walls that held every family photo, the doorway they walked through carrying each newborn home for the first time. Gone. They left with the clothes on their backs nothing else.
In a matter of minutes, a family that was already working hard to build a dream found themselves starting completely over. This isn’t about replacing furniture. This is about helping two small children feel safe again. This is about giving a hardworking family stability after trauma. This is about lifting people who have always tried to do life the right way. They didn’t lose their faith. They didn’t lose each other. But they lost everything else. If you feel led to help, any donation will go directly to helping them rebuild what was taken in a single night. Sometimes tragedy happens fast, but restoration can happen together. Let’s help them rise…from ashes to restoration.
