Help Laila Get Life-Changing Jaw Surgery

Hello All,

My name is Grant Murphy. Together with Amanda Mitchison, owner of Adnama Beauty in Lorn, I am reaching out on behalf of our dear friend Laila Kirtley. Our families have been close for many years, and we’ve had a front-row seat to Laila’s ongoing and painful medical journey.

Laila is an extraordinary young woman — humble, generous, warm-hearted, and fiercely resilient. She was born at just 29 weeks and has fought through immense health challenges ever since. Despite everything she’s endured, she meets life with humour, kindness, and a “glass half full” outlook.

Over the past three years, Laila has undergone multiple surgeries and countless hospital admissions in an effort to improve her quality of life. Most recently, she was diagnosed with Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD), a debilitating condition that affects her jaw joint, muscles, and surrounding nerves. Laila lives in constant, severe pain and is now unable to eat solid food or enjoy simple daily moments without suffering.

After months of specialist consultations, it’s been determined that she urgently needs a full prosthetic jaw joint replacement — a complex and costly procedure with an estimated 18-month recovery. The surgery is booked for the first week of July, but the hospital has made it clear: if $20,000 isn’t paid upfront, the surgery will be postponed. So far, Laila and her family have already spent close to $20,000 out of pocket just to get to this point.

Adding to the weight of this situation is Laila’s incredible mother, who is not only her full-time carer but is also currently facing her own serious heart condition. She is someone who always puts herself last, quietly carrying the burden of caring for Laila through every step of this journey, while dealing with her own health crisis.

This is a proud and private family that has never asked for help. They even resisted the idea of a fundraiser, planning instead to sell off their personal belongings, believing others might need help more. But now, we’re asking on their behalf — because they truly need a hand and a show of love and support.
