Without Public Broadcasting reporters, there’s simply no way to ensure that all Hoosiers have access to information through the universal service of public media.
Despite the shared goal of advancing knowledge and information through public media, the state legislature chose to defund Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations, Inc. (IPBS) in the 2025 biennial budget, allocating $3.6 million per year in annual funding, in addition to federal funding reductions.
Today, this resulted in the layoffs of at least eight reporters across the state, including statehouse reporters, environmental reporters, labor reporters, digital editors, managing editors, videographers, news editors, and health reporters.
That's why I hope you will help support these tireless news professionals who are suddenly without jobs.
There is no minimum or maximum donation, and all of your money will go directly to supporting the Indiana Public Broadcasting staff who lost their jobs this week, including:
Brandon Smith has covered the Statehouse for more than a decade and co-hosts Indiana Week in Review on WFYI. Other impacted reporters include: health reporter Abigail Ruhman; energy and environmental reporter Rebecca Thiele; digital editor Lauren Chapman; and labor and employment reporter Timoria Cunningham.
