Hello Everyone,
The beautiful woman in this photo is Lai Lai. She is a homegrown Austinite, a graduate from the Austin Can Academy. She is 26yrs old and 8 months pregnant with her first natural child. Lai Laiis also mom to a beautiful 3 yr old Kiria, whose birth mother is currently battling addiction. She survived a violent assault in 2019 that required reconstructive jaw surgery. Although she works full time she has no more PTO after the attack. A few weeks ago she tested positive and was hospitalized for Covid-19. Despite everything her fighting spirit brought her through that ordeal and she is once again home. Sadly she is still unable to work and struggling to recover from the financial losses.
Lai Lai has fallen behind on rent and other bills (like many of us do at some point in life) She has been issued an eviction notice so everything is now on a time clock. This campaign is primarily focused on making sure her rent/late fees are paid first ($3,300) so that she doesn't have to worry about a roof over her head while she brings new life into the world. The remaining money is to take care of the majority of her remaining medical bills so that her children will not be made to suffer as a result of her attack. Lai Lai is an amazing, sweet and strong person. I have nothing but more respect for her every time we interact. Despite many difficulties she continues to fight to better herself and the lives of her family at every turn.
Her caring nature shines through in her hobbies as she loves to spend her free time taking care of family and rescuing small wild animals who are abandoned as infants, nursing them to health and returning them to the proper wildlife authorities. Below are some videos of her doing this amazing work.
Nothing can take away the trauma of being assaulted, being ill while pregnant or worrying that you might lose your home due to all of those factors. What we can do is all give a little.
A little + a little + a little could = a much better year for this family and a much better start to the life of the child she is carrying.
