As some of you may have heard by now, our parents, Lafey & Arlie Tso, experienced a devastating home fire on the evening of November 12, 2025. They made it out of the home safely with just the clothes on their back. The rest of their belongings were lost in the fire, including irreplaceable items and heirlooms that were near and dear to their hearts. Elderly and disabled, their precious home served as their sanctuary.
The outpouring of love that our parents are receiving has been tremendous! There are no words for the amount of gratitude our parents and brother are feeling at the moment. Reading words of support from far and wide reminds us of our father’s legacy–he’s highly respected in our community because of the long-term dedication and fairness he showed as Transportation Director at Chinle Unified School District for many years:
“I remember growing up and seeing my father taking a moment in the mornings to hold his work keys, kneeling on the floor, and with his eyes closed he'd say a prayer. A prayer for the protection of his staff and all students within CUSD. He prayed that the buses would safely deliver the students to each destination. I remember him staying late at work to go beyond his duties by lending a hand to his mechanic–to either fix or dig out buses in adverse weather. We often wondered, "Why is dad always at work?" Sometimes we'd have dinner without him. As we grew older, we began to understand why: The students. Now, here we stand as his daughters continuing his legacy, dedicating our time to students of our own. I see you, dad. I see why. My mom supported my dad by making sure we were all fed and cared for. We had a big family, but my mom always made room for our cousins who didn’t have anywhere else to go. As her daughters, we do the same. As tired as we are after a day's work, we make time for our family just like mom did. Today, we witnessed our late silly brothers, Dana and Ron, working from the beyond as we sifted through clothing donations. Eagle Air Med and Denver Broncos apparel began to appear. It was a mix of sadness, laughter and gratitude as we sat together with our parents picking out clothes.” -Veronica Tso, daughter of Lafey & Arlie Tso
As we approach the holidays during this difficult time, we are asking you if there’s any way you can help, in any capacity. We’re hoping to raise funds to help cover the long-term costs of rebuilding a home and life for our aging parents. Any donation amount, GoFundMe share, or help with the manual labor that will be needed throughout this process is greatly appreciated!
