Lady Blue Ivy, my daughter’s beloved 6-year-old German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix, recently presented severe GI symptoms and significant blood loss and was rushed to the veterinary ER center. After multiple tests and hospitalization, a serious intestinal condition was identified that requires specialized surgery.

We have already spent thousands of dollars on emergency care and diagnostics to stabilize Ivy and determine the cause of her illness. Now, we are facing additional surgical and recovery expenses to give her the best chance at a full recovery. As many pet owners know, emergency veterinary expenses can become overwhelming very quickly.

Ivy is far more than a pet. Several years ago my daughter adopted Ivy as a young pup. Not long afterward, life took an unexpected turn, and the two of them found themselves navigating a difficult season together. Ivy became fiercely protective of her person, and with patience, training, and countless hours of work, my daughter helped her grow into a well-behaved and trusted companion.

Today, Ivy loves everything Colorado has to offer—hiking mountain trails, playing in the snow, and even riding on a paddleboard with her person. I was initially nervous about having such a large, strong breed, but I came to appreciate the confidence and security Ivy brought into my daughter’s life. Through the years, they have become inseparable. Anyone who knows Ivy knows her as a loyal, intelligent, and loving dog who is happiest when she’s by my daughter’s side. We are doing everything we can to give Ivy the best chance at a full recovery and many more adventures ahead.
