Hi everyone,

My name is Lacy Miller and I am currently a rising sophomore at James Madison University, Class of 2028. JMU quickly became not just my dream school, but my home and safe space. I am majoring in Political Science and my goal is to become a lawyer so I can advocate for others. I work very hard academically and am determined to make a difference, but right now my dream is at risk.

Due to new rules with Student Financial Aid, my parents were recently denied for a Parent Plus Loan. They also applied for private loans, but were denied because of their current debt-to-income ratio.

Over the past three years, my dad has endured multiple hospitalizations and is now unable to work. He receives a small amount in social security, but it barely covers basic living expenses. My mom just started a new job in April, and while we are hopeful things will get better, it will take time for her income to recover. On top of that, my parents had to take out loans this year for unexpected home repairs and medical bills, which added more financial strain.

As of right now, I owe $23,000 to remain enrolled for the 2024–2025 school year, and time is running out to come up with the funds. This has been devastating and heartbreaking, because I truly love JMU and worked so hard to get here.

We are humbly asking for help during a time when so many people are struggling themselves. We are praying that God will provide a way — through the kindness of people who know me, and even through strangers who feel called to help.

Every donation, no matter how small, brings me one step closer to staying at JMU and continuing my education. Proof of payment to the school will be provided once the funds are applied.
