We would love if you would like to sponsor Lachlans future sporting career, I am asking for any amount of money from you to help.
Lachlan has been offered an amazing trip to Canada from Sports Travel Australia. This is a 2 week trip to Canada then America and compete against 2 different teams. He will also enjoy some sightseeing adventures in both countries. The Canada trip is approx $8500 and if Lachlan gets into Nationals for Little Athletics for this 18-19 season this trip will be in the Gold Coast.
Lachlan O'Brien 13 years old, 14 in March 2019.
We have lived in Newcastle for 4 years now and for 3 of those years Lachlan has been training for Discus and Shotput. It all started when he made it to Little Athletics regional carnival for Shotput in 2015, Lachlan was 11, we went to the free training through Mac Hunter Little Athletics and Coach Seamus Speers asked if Lachlan wanted to do training for Shotput just with the kids who have been to state athletics, Seamus must have seen something in Lachlan because that year he made it to state.
He continued training with Seamus. The results went for Year 7 he made it to State Athletics for school, 1st in Discus and 2nd in Shotput. Little Athletics, 3rd in Shotput and 11th for Discus. He also competed in an event called All Schools and Lachlan won both again and was able to compete in Australian All Schools. At Australian all schools he got 6th for Shotput and 7th for Discus, so basically Lachlan is 6th best in Australia for Shotput and 7th best in Australia for Discus.

(Above is Lachlan Throwing Shotput 2018 and Lachlan with the Grand Final Trophy and the Man Of The Match Medal 2018)
Now Lachlan is in year 8 Lachlan is now Hunter Sports High School in the Talented sports program not for athletics though for Rugby league. Lachlan has played League since he was 5 and for the past couple of year playing forward position he has excelled and this year competed in representative rugby league and is now in the under 14’s Knights Development Squad. Lachlan also got Man of the Match in his Grand final and at the end of the year presentation he received Best Forward trophy.
Towards the end of 2018, Lachlan has a new coach Ken Harradine, Seamus retired. Lachlan has competed in School State and got 1st in both Shot put and Discus. NSW All Schools and got 3rd in Shotput and 4th in Discus. Since the All Schools competition Lachlan has more of a consistent training program with his new Coach which has helped his throwing immensely.
Lachlan has successfully gained entry to the Australian Championships in April for Shotput, he needs to gain a qualifier for Discus in some upcoming competitions or get 1st, 2nd or 3rd at NSW Juniors in February.
Also in February and March he has Little Athletics Regionals and State competitions and hopefully Nationals.
Rugby League Lachlan has been training hard with the Newcastle Knights development squad, this is to gain much wanted skills for his future games and he is hoping to gain a position in 2019 in the Representative squad.
Lachlan dream is to play rugby league in the NRL and hoping to compete firstly in the World Juniors in 3 years time and then in Commonwealth Games or Olympics. It’s a big dream but he has the ability to achieve.
I am a single mum, Lachlans dad lives in Sydney, Lachlan has fortnight weekends with his dad but through out the 12 other days I do it all on my own so I work casually so I can help Lachlan go for his dreams. I do find it very difficult in keeping up with Lachlans sport but I do not want to inhibit him because of money, he has incredible aptitude to sport and I want to give him every opportunity and this is my best way possible. If you could see him train or compete you would completely understand why I am sending letters out asking for sponsors.
To go to Canada would be an amazing experience one he will not get to have if I don’t ask for sponsors.
If Lachlan doesn't raise enough funds for Canada, this money raised will go towards only sporting needs such as competitions and equipment.
Thanks for reading about Lachlans sporting history and fingers crossed you will see him on the sporting fields in the future.
