Lacey was diagnosed with colon cancer in December of 2017. In the year since, the Carolina Planning Community has rallied behind Lacey—her fellow students accompanied her to every chemotherapy session, prepared meals, and organized a robust network of support. After completing six months of chemo, we thought the hard part was over. However, in November of this year, Lacey learned that her tumor had come back. Lacey will need a second round of chemotherapy and HIPEC  surgery, $3,000 of which insurance will not cover.
Balanced nutrition and a high protein diet, which is hard on Lacey's budget, is also an important part of her treatment.
