Hello, my name is Jodie, and I’m fundraising on behalf of my best friend’s family after a life-changing tragedy.
On November 11th, in Gravenhurst, Ontario, after dropping Dylan off at work, his wife Lacey and their three young children—Lincoln (6), Jaxson (3), and baby Ivy (7 months)—were involved in a head-on collision. Thanks to their car seats, the children survived physically unharmed, but they witnessed unimaginable trauma as their mom fought for her life.
Lacey is currently at St. Michael’s Hospital with severe injuries, including a broken arm, a broken leg, back injuries requiring surgery, and internal damage. Once she is stable, the goal is to transfer her to Bracebridge to be closer to her family and where she will begin a long and difficult road of physiotherapy and recovery.
This tragedy has turned their lives upside down. The following are items that they have requested funds for:
- Dylan must take a leave from work to be by Lacey’s side and support their children for approximately 6 months.
- Brenda, my dear friend and the children’s grandmother, will need to take time away from her job to care for all three grandchildren for approximately 6 months.
- The family’s leased vehicle was destroyed in the accident, leaving them without transportation.
- With no employee benefits, they are now facing overwhelming financial strain: rent, medical costs, daycare, travel to the hospital and medical appointments, and eventually replacing their vehicle.
It is difficult to reach out in this manner, especially so close to Christmas, a time that should be filled with joy, warmth, and family moments. Instead, this young family is facing uncertainty, separation, and emotional pain.
This will be baby Ivy’s very first Christmas—one Lacey will heartbreakingly miss as she remains in the hospital recovering from her injuries. Lincoln and Jaxson are trying to understand why their mom can’t be home, and the family is simply trying to hold things together during what should be the happiest time of the year.
