L4P will be hosting a meetup on Saturday, June 13, for attendees of the Labor Notes conference as well as activists based in the Chicago area. We want to create a space where activists can freely exchange ideas and organize for liberation. Unfortunately, the conference itself will not provide an adequate space for this as L4P was denied the privilege of hosting an official table or panel at Labor Notes this year.
Instead, L4P will host an informal meetup at a nearby public park to build and strengthen connections between labor activists from across the continent. To avoid any collisions with official Labor Notes activities, the meetup will be held during the lunch break on Saturday (schedule pending).
We’d like to provide lunch from Taza Cafe. While we don’t have an exact headcount, Labor Notes expects about 6,000 attendees this year, and L4P members will be flyering and distributing buttons Friday and Saturday morning. If even one percent of attendees are interested in joining, we’ll have over fifty people at our meetup!
Costs for a basic catered meal for fifty begin at around $1,000 including tip and delivery fees. If this need is met, we will increase our goal to cover beverages and tableware and to reimburse L4P members for the cost of the pavilion rental ($145). We may also need to order more food, depending on the number of RSVPs we receive.
Thank you so much for your support! Learn more about L4P here (bit.ly/lab4pals).
