We would like to acknowledge the generous contributions received thus far. Kyrie is beyond grateful, and will send personal thank-you messages once she has settled a bit. We would also like to give special thanks to her father, Donald Mackinnon, for his generous donation prior to this Gofundme. It was a tremendous help.
Update: January 18, 2026
Kyrie was able to successfully get all of her belongings out of the old apartment by the end of this past week. The cost of the move went far beyond the original 2K estimate to approximately 3k, not including storage. So the fundraising goal continues as she still needs to cover storage costs, and find/secure a new space, and pay for moving in costs. If you have already donated, awesome! If this is new to you, please read below, and thank you for your consideration.

Happy new year to all. This is Kyrie's cousin, Jean. I am writing this on behalf of Kyrie; she is in dire need of help. Here is what I know: on December 18, she was suddenly, without warning, evicted from the apartment she called home for 27 years. Her apartment was taken over by an LLC last year, some guy in Texas. She was unemployed and looking for a job; her work is sometimes sporadic but I do know being unemployed was not for lack of trying. In the midst of her job searching, she was notified by the landlord he was increasing her rent by $500 a month. She tried to work with the landlord to no avail, and was told she would be evicted if she couldn't pay the extra $500. Landlord was unwilling to work with her, so she resorted to NYC Legal Aid. They helped at first, but the ball was dropped. She wound up representing herself in court. The legal system isn't fair; if you can't afford a personal attorney, then you get what you get, which is sad. She has been to court multiple times, and in mid December, the judge ruled against her, despite her explaining the gaps in legal representation, and was told she had 2 weeks to vacate.
What happened next was incomprehensible. A day later, the US Marshall showed up at her apartment and escorted her away, without her phone, with nowhere to go, with 27 years worth of living, memories and belongings, not to mention the computers she uses to work from home - locked out. She at least convinced them to allow her to get her phone. So they didn't give her 2 weeks, and didn't notify her they were coming the next day. She is basically "couch homeless" right now, and is currently staying with her brother Dai, but this is temporary. Out of desperation, she called me and asked if there was any way I could help.
She went back to court on Wednesday, January 7th, and they only granted her 2 supervised days next week to pack up all her stuff, on Tuesday and Friday. After Friday, whatever she can't pack and store is gone. They refused to allow her in on the weekends, when her friends could help/save her some money. Her only recourse is to pay for movers and packers, which is expensive - to get her belongings into storage. That is for starters. (Moving and packing estimate starts at 2k, not including storage). Next, she will have to find and secure a new placed to live. She has exhausted all of her funds just to get to this point.
If you are able, please give what you can to help her get reestablished. This Gofundme is linked directly to her bank account, and she can access any donations directly.
Thank you all for reading this, and again - if you are unable to give, just say a prayer/send her good vibes. If you are able, please give what you can.
