At least once in our lifetime, we all have that one pet that impacts our time on this earth more than most. They become the absolute light, and you almost feel bad for the ones that come after because damn, did they set that bar high. And sometimes, we have the great fortune of saying the same thing about a friend that comes into our life. Put these two lights together and you have a cosmic explosion of goodness that rivals the big bang.
No two souls exemplify this sentiment more than Corey Bader and her sweet pup Kyra. It's the classic tale of "who rescued who?," a beautiful Brooklyn love story of two beings that found each other against the odds and formed a bond worthy of a Hollywood blockbuster staring Dennis Quaid.
If you know Corey, you are no stranger to the endless love and support she so selflessly gives, with Kyra by her side to offer you her favorite toy, a lap sit, or a little love-snort. And if you don't know them, just take my word for it. It is in the spirit of their constant generosity that I ask you for help.
After slipping a disc at the base of her spine, sweet Kyra now requires spinal surgery in order to walk again. The surgery will be performed this week, and require a multiple nights stay in the animal hospital. Anyone who has had to utilize emergency animal care in New York City is all too familiar with the extremely high cost attached to it. The surgery itself will total $9300, but with it Kyra is expected to make a full recovery to perfect health & full use of her legs.
Kyra has so many more road trips to go on, football games to watch (she is, after all, Greenbay Packer's #1 dogfan), Brooklyn blocks to strut down, and endless love to give. Let's help her do that.
