If you've ever met Kyra, you know she has a way of making people feel seen, loved, and valued. At just 22 years old, she is kind, generous, deeply faithful, and a bright light to everyone she meets. She is a beloved daughter to Eric and Candi, a wonderful sister to Matthew, and has dedicated herself to serving Deaf and hard of hearing children while working toward her college degree.
Since childhood, Kyra has courageously battled cancer while facing more medical challenges than most people experience in a lifetime. This spring, after several falls and worsening balance, doctors discovered that a dangerous buildup of fluid in her brain and spinal cord had worsened. Following yet another brain surgery, Kyra was left with significant neurological deficits on her left side, making it impossible for her to return to work and difficult to communicate using American Sign Language.
After weeks of rehabilitation, her condition suddenly worsened. She required a shunt to drain fluid from her brain, but it malfunctioned the very next day, causing a life-threatening emergency that required another brain surgery. Since then, Kyra has been hospitalized multiple times with relentless nausea, vomiting, weight loss, and continued neurological decline.
She is currently back in the hospital and her doctors recently discovered that the syrinx—a fluid-filled cavity within her spinal cord—has grown significantly. She is unable to walk independently, needs assistance with nearly every daily task, and may require yet another major surgery, one that carries significant uncertainty and does not always provide lasting results.
As the medical bills continue to grow, Eric and Candi have missed substantial time from work to remain at Kyra's side. Since April, Candi has rarely left the hospital and will soon need to take a leave of absence to continue providing the full-time care Kyra now requires.
If you feel led to help, any donation—no matter the amount—will go toward medical expenses, rehabilitation, lost income, and helping the family remain focused on what matters most: Kyra's recovery.
Most of all, we ask for your continued prayers. Please pray for healing, wisdom for her medical team, strength for Eric, Candi, and Matthew, and peace as they navigate the difficult days ahead.
Thank you for supporting the Dinkins family. Every prayer, every share, and every gift reminds them they are not walking this journey alone.
