My handsome boy, Kylo, has been having liver issues. He is drinking excessive amounts of water, slowing down and overall grumpy with his people. This is out of character for him. His labs all looked perfect except his liver enzymes which were elevated. His vet recommended I take him to an internal medicine vet since his liver enzymes show a pattern of increasing through the years.

At the Internal med vet, an ultrasound was done on his gallbladder (his regular vet saw what looked like sludge and wanted to be safe) and labs sent out to check for pituitary dependent Cushing's. The lab came back negative for Cushing's, his gallbladder is just fine, so he was placed on Denamarin and Ursodiol to help with his liver. The latest labs show that even on these meds, his liver enzymes got worse. A liver aspirate was done next and found that it was benign and that it is a vacuolar change. The next step would be a biopsy to know exactly what is causing this and determine the best course of treatment.

The biopsy is estimated to be around $4000-$5000, granted everything goes well. Kylo is my life, he is my soul dog, my best friend and has been with me through the worst times in my life.
