Help Kylie to get fabulous Kidneys forever
Donation protected
Hi, everyone, thank-you so much for taking the time to visit our page, & read Kylie's story. My name is Simone, and this page has been set up to help my incredible niece Kylie complete the last step towards re-instating her active status for much needed kidney surgery. At age 21, Kylie was diagnosed with Type 1 Insulin dependent Diabetes - since then her life for the past 20 years has been a constant battle of balancing work and family, with ill health. Prior to diagnosis Kylie was a healthy dive instructor with a high degree of responsibility for others, as such she had to change careers. Kylie became a riding instructor, and with her strong love of horses, built up her own small riding school for children and adults, particularly for those clients with special needs.
As many of us are aware, Type 1 Diabetes (Immune System Disorder) can have enormous ramifications on many body systems, in particular for Kylie her kidneys, heart and oral health. Kylie now has kidney failure as a direct resut of her diabetes, and for the past 2 years has been enduring 9 hour nightly peritoneal dialysis under home therapy. Kylie qualifies for a dual organ transplant ( kidney and pancreas). However, to get the final go-ahead, she first needs to get major dental work done. Type 1 Diabetes affects blood vessels that nourish the teeth and gums, and her immune systems ability to ward off infection - as such Kylie requires multiple extractions and dental implants. Recipients of organ transplant have a further hightened risk of infection, which can compromise precious transplant success. Thus it is imperitive to have good oral health, prior to surgery.
Aged 40, Kylie is a hard worker, and although she runs her own riding school business, the combination of deteriorating health, constant flooding in S.E. Queensland, and caring for her wonderful 12 year old autistic son, have cumulatively made it impossible to save for expensive medical procedures. In recent months further hurdles including hospitalisation with Covid, pneumonia, heart problems and battling an infection in her abdominal port, have snowballed to have worsening consequences for Kylie. Kylies kidney status has now declined & she is no longer able to have home dialysis. A permacath has been placed in her neck vein and she now requires multiple weekly hospital visits for haemodialysis, escalating the urgency to get her dental work completed so a transplant can be done.
Kylie has always had a great sense of humour and this has helped her enormously to soldier on under duress. She always tries to make the best of her life, having fun with her son, and loving her work with kids and horses. Kylie is now becoming exhausted, has less time with her son, less independence and time to work. These are the things that have kept her going. I am asking for help to give her more hope.
Funds raised will assist with her dental surgery costs, so that the truly lifesaving gift of a transplant can proceed. This fundraising will also potentially create a safety net for Kylie, and aid in living expenses in the 3 to 4 months of recovery following dual organ transplantation. Every single dollar received is a blessing for this very deserving woman. I thank you for considering giving her a hand - as your help, no matter how small, will move mountains
