Help Kylie & Sussa Fight for Justice

We’re reaching out to ask for your support for Kylie, a compassionate dog owner, devoted animal advocate, and someone whose life’s passion has always been helping dogs. Unfortunately, Kylie and her beloved rescue dog, Sussa, are facing “dangerous dog” charges due to an unfortunate incident involving an off-leash dog approaching them outside their home.

On December 17, 2024, a small, off-leash, unattended dog unexpectedly approached Sussa near his home upon exiting the vehicle with Kylie. Despite Kylie’s efforts to manage Sussa on leash —something she’s been diligently committed to— he reacted instinctively and injured the other dog.

Kylie took immediate action to ensure that a tragic accident like this could not happen again. While she knows she cannot control whether other owners abide by leash laws and how they control their dogs, she can enact more safety measures and training protocols so that Sussa is better equipped for those challenging situations. The day after the incident, Kylie began muzzle conditioning Sussa and prioritizing his loose leash walking as well as advancing impulse control training and obedience.

If Sussa is deemed “dangerous” by the state, Kylie faces immense financial burdens—including unaffordable insurance premiums, but most significantly, housing restrictions that will make it incredibly difficult for her to find a place to live where she can bring Sussa. These potential costs, plus the current legal costs, severely impact her ability to care for Sussa and live a stable life. Kylie has retained an experienced attorney who is representing her and Sussa in this case. Attorney costs alone are $4,000, plus additional expected court costs depending on the outcome of the case (especially if he is deemed “dangerous”) as well as helpful training tools and sessions that will set Sussa and Kylie up for success. Sussa’s Journey

Sussa’s story is one of resilience. He came from an abusive and heartbreaking puppyhood, where he and his siblings lived on a chain outside with their mother until they were 7 months old. They were subjected to horrific treatment — starved, beaten, and burned by a man with no regard for their lives.

Thankfully, a selfless woman stepped in to rescue as many dogs as she could from that horrific situation, saving Sussa and giving him a chance at life. A few months later, Kylie and Sussa met, and for the first time in his life, Sussa’s future was safe and filled with love.

Kylie has poured her heart and soul into helping Sussa heal, thrive, and feel secure. He’s lived peacefully with over 30 dogs during his time with Kylie, helping shelter dogs gain confidence and security while finding their forever homes, as well as many new and old dog friends through petsitting and weekly play dates. Sussa has been a loving, loyal companion to Kylie and all those they welcome into their home and lives. This incident doesn’t define him — it highlights the importance of responsible ownership and safety on all sides.
