Help Kylie and her family kick cancers butt!

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Liana and alongside my mom Cherie and my friend Cara, we are raising funds to help alleviate the financial pressure for Kylie’s family during this very uncharted, unexpected and unpredictable journey they are all about to embark.

Kylie is a 17 year old fun loving, sweet kid. She has the heart of gold and a smile that would light up any room. Her eyes could melt anybody’s heart! She loves hanging out with her friends, her family, playing soccer, video games etc. and she is like any teenager and is full of life and love!

After experiencing some hip pain, Kylie was brought to her pediatrician where she was sent for imaging to determine the cause of her pain. It was this first set of images that would show her family their world was about to change. After a few more tests Kylie was sent to CHLA for further inpatient evaluation. It was there that she received more testing and the unfortunate and unfair diagnosis of Osteosarcoma on March 14.

Osteosarcoma is bone cancer. No child should ever hear the words, “you have cancer,” and no parent should ever have to hear the words, “your child has cancer.”

Kylie has a brother who is 16, two sisters ages 5 and 9 and another little brother who is 7 with her mom. Kylie is very close to all of her siblings and they all very much love her and look up to her.

I am asking for the community to rally together during this journey as Kylie’s dad, Tom, who works as an operating engineer, is going to have to take an unpaid leave of absence from work to care for Kylie while she battles with cancer. Kylie’s step-mom is able to work from home, but the balance of supporting Tom and the rest of the family will be undoubtedly challenging at best and there will surely be a loss of work for her as well.

The financial burden does not stop here… the family will need to be able to stay together as much as possible to support all the kiddos and their own mental health through this unknown journey and while CHLA is roughly 55 miles from their home, the costs of living outside of the home during treatments are going to be astronomical for the Meagher’s (Kylie’s fambam).

Additionally, the medical costs…. It is unfortunate that we don’t, as a society, have funds saved for families like the Meagher’s who are battling childhood cancer. The only thing we can do is start a gofundme and hope for the best outcome. Dad will be responsible for 10% of Kylie’s medical bills. Did you know one round of chemo can be 12,000 dollars just for the chemo itself? Not to mention the hospital stays, transfusions, medications, imaging, surgeries, radiation etc. The average cost in the fight of childhood cancer is 35,000 dollars per day of treatment… PER DAY! Let that sink in… that should be illegal, but it’s not. So I come here to ask of our community to please help, anything you can… but most of all pray for Kylie and her family to get through this as strong as possible. Please share this fundraiser page as to not only help the Meagher’s in Kylie’s battle against Osteosarcoma, but to raise awareness of childhood cancer and the reality behind every family’s worst nightmare and to rally a group of amazing people together to send good vibes and prayers to the family.

Much love to everyone and thank you all for your support!
