I’m writing this with a heavy heart on behalf of my dear friend Kyli and her beloved 15-year-old cat, Roma — who will most likely be put to rest this week.

Roma has been by Kyli’s side for fifteen years. Her best friend. Her shadow. Her comfort through every heartbreak, move, and chapter of life. Roma has been more than a pet — she’s been family. And now, after months of fighting an aggressive oral cancer, Kyli is preparing to say goodbye.

Roma was diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma in early 2025. Kyli did everything in her power to save her. Radiation therapy helped shrink the tumor temporarily, but it’s returned and spread into the bone. There are no more treatment options — just love, comfort, and heartbreak.

And behind it all, Kyli is left with $15,000 in vet bills — the cost of trying to save her best friend’s life.

She’s paid, out-of-pocket and without insurance:

• $8,000+ for radiation therapy

• $2,000 for diagnostic scans and planning

• $1,500 for dental surgery

• Numerous appointments ranging from $500–$1,000 each

• $450+ for her most recent visit — with no treatment even done that day

Kyli is grieving, exhausted, and now facing crushing debt on top of losing her soul cat. She gave everything to give Roma a chance — and now she’s left holding the emotional and financial weight alone.
