My name is Pam. I am a Board Member of the Piedmont Habitat for Humanity. I recently worked in Nelson County and helped to get Kylene into a small Habitat house. She moved into the house in the summer of 2024. Kylene is 43 and has had diabetes most of her life. As a result of the diabetes, she has kidney failure, has lost a leg, is partially blind, and uses a wheelchair. She requires weekly medical care and full-time assistance. She is on both Medicare and Medicaid and just got word they have cut her monthly stipend. With this funding cut, her life saving care cannot continue and she is unable to pay her monthly bills.
