Help Kyle rebuild his life, starting with teeth.

Hi, my name is Ryan Hill. I have been with my caring and selfless partner Kyle Brown since 2006 and married since 2011. We live in Brooklyn, NYC and like most people, have been hit very hard these last two years. Kyle was born with two congenital dental conditions - chronic periodontitis and congenital amelogenesis imperfecta but didn’t receive these diagnoses until last month.

 

Amelogenesis Imperfecta is an inherited/congenital disorder of tooth development. This condition causes teeth to be unusually small, discolored, pitted or grooved, and prone to rapid wear and breakage. Other dental abnormalities are also possible. Chronic Periodontitis is a disease of the oral cavity which consists of chronic inflammation of the periodontal tissues. In Kyle’s case, the disease was caused by large amounts of dental plaque underneath his gum line which accumulated over time and was a direct result of his inherited congenital Amelogenesis Imperfecta.

 

The periodontitis is likely caused by the congenital amelogenesis imperfecta in Kyle’s case.

 

Having watched the love of my life (who happens to be black AND gay/queer) be laid off from his longtime fast-paced work several years ago due to discriminatory actions taken by a large company, and then watched him slowly lose his inner light as a result has been very hard. Not to mention, I’ve had to become the only source of income for our household in NYC.

 

Then, about a year ago in 2020, Kyle had a few teeth crack and fall out completely randomly. We did not have money at the time to send him to the dentist, so he just continued to suffer in silence. He has since seen a dentist at a public clinic, who has to remove nearly every single tooth. This would be traumatic news for anyone to receive, especially if they’re not expecting it. Because of the congenital conditions, he hasn’t felt pain over these years as his teeth completely disintegrated below the gum line, so he had no idea the condition was so dire.

 

The current plan is for him to have all of his upper teeth and many of the lower ones extracted on 12/14/21. It’s going to be a challenging holiday season for him with no teeth, but the real issue he is dealing with is being able to have a smile that can help get him back to feeling like himself again and to help be able to work in a similar field he worked in before all this.

 

If you could please help us get Kyle’s life back on track, we would be eternally grateful. Even if we could afford to give him SOME dental implants and fill out the rest with dentures, etc., that would help my partner Kyle in ways I am currently just unable to.
