Help Kyle MacNeil to finish Medical School

Hi my name is Kyle MacNeil and I am entering my third year of medical school and will be starting my clinical clerkships at Lincoln Medical Center in New York City. This will see me gain hands on experience across a myriad of disciplines of medicine - from Obstetrics & Gynecology to Surgery, Pediatrics and Psychiatry. This will be valuable as next fall, I will have to apply to residencies across the USA in hopes of gaining acceptance to begin practicing medicine upon graduation in 2024. Unfortunately, as I am a Canadian studying outside of Canada, there are two main challenges.

First - the costs of tuition and living are significantly higher due to both the education system in the USA as well as the current state of the Canadian dollar. For perspective, one term of tuition is 30,000 USD and this becomes 40,015 CAD upon conversion. This ignores fees, exam fees, living expenses, etc. Secondly - the financial institutions in Canada frown upon students who study abroad. While they are willing to throw money at those studying at an educational institution in Canada (professional line of credit of 250,000+ CAD with no co-signer required), for those students who are studying outside of the country they reside in, the ability to get necessary funding comes down to knowing/having someone with significant assets that can act as a co-signer with one of these financial institutions. Without this, you're left with very little avenues to explore as even federal student loans have funding maximums that are tailored to Canadian educational institutions and not those abroad. As such, even if you're successful with these student loans, there is often a gap that cannot be filled without some outside source of funding.

As a student with a permanent disability (hearing-impaired), I have experience with living in a province/country that offers little financial support to those who need it and the creative solutions that we must resort to just so we can partake in the normal daily activities of society - work, school, and social encounters. In a similar sense, these avenues for my education I have explored and exhausted myself and this is why I am here today with my story, and I thank you for taking the time to read if you made it this far. If I was not in a situation where I was unsure of being able to continue to afford the continuation of my studies, then I would not be here now. While I am not asking for others to fund my education, any and all contributions are greatly appreciated and will be used to ensure I can continue to study without worrying about having a place to live and the expenses associated with medical school.
