Hello, my name is Kendall, and I’m creating this fundraiser on behalf of my father-in-law, Kyle Higgins, and his son—my husband—Dustan, who has been by his side through this unimaginable situation.
On May 8, Kyle suffered a devastating fall down a flight of stairs, resulting in two brain bleeds—a subdural and epidural hematoma. The trauma left him unable to communicate clearly, and due to the severity of his aphasia and confusion, he was admitted to the hospital under an alias. For two agonizing days, our family didn’t know where he was or what had happened to him.
When we finally found him, we learned the extent of his injuries: slurred speech, memory issues, and significant cognitive impairment. There are people he does remember but can't say their name due to injury. Then there are people he doesn't remember at all. He is currently undergoing an artery embolization procedure because the bleeding in his brain has continued. His road to recovery is still uncertain, and he remains in the hospital receiving 24-hour critical care. His recovery is up in the air at the moment, as we do not know the long-term effects of his injury.
The financial strain is becoming overwhelming. On top of that we’re managing transportation, time off work, and day-to-day expenses. He has been living with us on and off for the past few years, he is also a funny, caring, and hardworking person who loves to work and help his friends and family before himself and now simply can’t now.
My husband and I are also caring for our 11-month-old baby, trying to hold everything together emotionally and financially. This has been one of the hardest experiences our family has faced. We are trying to stay strong while watching his father fight through this trauma.
We are asking for $4,000 to help cover the most urgent expenses. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to easing this burden and focusing on what matters most—Kyle’s recovery.
If you can give, we are deeply grateful. If not, please consider sharing this campaign to help spread the word.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
