Hi everyone! I’m Kylan’s mom from Calgary, Alberta. I’m starting this fundraiser to support my son, Kylan, in participating in the S.E.A. (Sailing Educational Adventures) Program offered through his middle school. He was selected from a group of applicants based on an essay he wrote explaining why he would benefit from being part of this incredible educational opportunity.
Why we need your help:
The cost of the program is a lot for a single parent family. Unfortunately the school isn’t setting up a fundraiser for the students to help raise funds. Kylan is already working hard to contribute by looking for small community jobs and collecting refundable bottles. I am proud of the effort he’s putting in to reach his goal.
He’s set an initial goal of $1,800 to make it more achievable, but the full cost of the trip is $3,360 plus gear. Your support—whether through a donation, small jobs he can do, offering refundable bottles, or simply sharing this fundraiser on social media—would mean so much to him and would help make this amazing learning opportunity possible.
Here is Kylan with more details about the S.E.A. Program:
Hi! I’m Kylan and I’m 13, going into grade 8 this fall. I’ve always dreamed of learning to sail, and now I have the opportunity! This October, I’ll be traveling to the West Coast of Canada with a small group of students for 5 days and 4 nights of sailing through the Gulf Islands in British Columbia aboard the historic sailing vessel “Duen.” That’s the boat next to me in the photo I created with the help of AI.
During this educational sailing expedition, we will be responsible for navigating the sailboat, learning marine biology firsthand, practicing environmental stewardship, and working as a crew to keep the boat moving. We will also learn about the history of the region, including the Coast Salish First Nations, as well as the history of the sailing vessel. I’m so excited to learn how to sail, sleep on the boat, kayak on the ocean, see whales up close, and explore the Pacific Ocean!
For me, this trip is a chance to challenge myself, further my education, learn new skills, fulfill my dream of sailing, create memories, and experience an opportunity of a lifetime.
With my mom being a single parent and not working right now, I’m doing everything I can to raise the money myself and help make this trip possible.
Your support will help cover:
• School Trip Fees: Covers the boat charter, instructors, kayak rental, food.
• Travel to the Coast: Flight/bus transport with the group.
• Essential Gear: Waterproof boots and heavy-weather gear for the Pacific autumn.
Any contribution—big or small—helps me get on that boat! Thank you for helping me set sail!
I’ll be posting weekly updates to share the work I’m doing to help fund this program, and to thank those who are supporting me along the way. Be sure to follow along!
I will share photos from my sailing trip in mid-October, so please follow my journey!
I’d love to get messages with donations so please remember to send one! It would mean so much to me.
*If you prefer making an offline donation please contact my mom directly.
