So, myself and my partner, Sam, are facing a lot of medical struggles this year. My bout with Ozempic-based gastroparesis caused us to have to replace the toilet ($500 for parts and labor,) and problems with the hardware in her back (which are going to require another back surgery) have necessitated paying people to do some household tasks and paying for poorly covered medical expenses. We just can't seem to come up with enough money to pay everything. I am on a walker and my balance is so poor I cannot stand and use my hands for anything because I will fall. All of the chores are falling to Sam, with the exception of a few things. She cooks, clears, drives, basically everything. But that is getting to be nearly impossible due to the bones in her spine being weak, which is causing the hardware that was placed to stabilize her back starting to break away from the spine. So she has had to stop doing the majority of things and is now on a walker herself. She is preparing for a 3rd back surgery to correct this stuff. We will both have to stay in a nursing home for two weeks after the surgery because she will be unable to care for herswlf and I am unable to stay here alone. I'm likely to need shoulder surgery too, before the dust settles. And being sick costs money. More than we have in ways you never think of, like the toilet needing to be replaced. We just updated the goal because our mattress just gave out when we got in bed tonight. Collapsed and torn down one side. We had taped it, but one of us will be unable to sleep on it. As a result, we are getting a bit desperate. We're also likely to need to pay someone to help with things my aide can't, like cooking. The struggle is profoundly depressing.
