Help Kyah Heal From Breast Cancer

Telling loved ones this news has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life. Putting my story out on GoFundMe and social media feels even harder. Two weeks ago, when I went to get a lump checked out, cancer was barely on my mind. I had just turned 27. Regular screening for breast cancer doesn’t start until you’re 40. When the doctor sat me down and point blank said, “you have breast cancer,” I was in complete shock and disbelief. The next few days were a blur trying to wrap my mind around what this meant for my life, both present and future.
I have at least stage 2 breast cancer. I am still waiting on the results from a suite of tests to tell me more about how aggressive it is, and if it has spread elsewhere in my body.
While this is a very overwhelming situation, I am not scared. I am not afraid to learn and figure out the best way to handle this for me. I see this as another health challenge that I must overcome. This is something that will only make me stronger. Truthfully, the scariest things for me have been having to tell everyone I love, knowing that they will worry, and having no idea how I’m going to pay for my treatment. Though I hope some expenses will be covered/reimbursable by insurance, most financial needs will not be.
This fund is intended to help with excess medical bills for my cancer treatment. This includes supplements, medications, and treatments at a specialized medical center. I will be able to receive a personalized and amazingly effective set of cutting edge treatments at this center which has been treating and healing people from cancer for decades.
I have spent countless hours over the past few weeks combing through every possible resource I can find. I have read medical journals, research articles, cancer institute websites, and talked to several different doctors. Since I am quite young, long-term impacts of cancer treatments are something I am particularly concerned with.
After deeply researching breast cancer and the different ways to treat it, I have developed a resolve to beat this cancer with as few harmful or invasive treatments as possible. With this in mind, I have decided to explore less invasive, yet highly effective treatments based on cutting-edge science and technology.
I have found a clinic that for over 25 years has successfully used individually focused treatments that work with the immune system and have minimal side effects. Unfortunately, the clinic is in Florida and my insurance will not cover a lot of the expenses surrounding my treatment and healing journey. Regardless of how someone goes about getting treatment, healing from cancer is expensive. I never imagined I would experience life threatening cancer or that I would have to ask others to help me with something like this. I see no other option.
I just don’t have some big emergency fund that would’ve prepared me for such a large medical emergency at just 27. While studying for my engineering degree, I worked up to three jobs at a time and still had to take out student loans. I’ve only been working full time for 5 years and I’m still paying off my student loans. Healing is going to be my full-time job, so I won’t be able to work. The stress of not knowing how I will be able to afford to heal has only subtracted from my healing. I really want to be able to focus on healing and fighting this deadly disease without thinking about incurring life-long crushing debt. That is why, truly the absolute best and most powerful thing that anyone can do to help me at this point, is to help me pay for my treatment.
My hope is that my journey of healing from cancer can be a source of inspiration for others. I hope that in the future I can be a resource for anybody with a similar diagnosis. This process is overwhelming and scary, but there are amazing solutions and ways of healing.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for being there for me during this challenging time. The support of my community means so much and I feel completely blessed to have such amazing people in my life. If you are able to contribute or share this campaign with your networks, I would be incredibly grateful. Please know that every single bit makes a difference that will help me on my healing journey.
