Help Kunoor Study Refugees & Migration!
Hello everyone!
As many of you know, I've been trying to use my year of grad school to learn more about the things that interest me, learn more about myself, and meet people doing incredible work around the world.
Several years ago, during the Trump administration, my work took me to several towns on the US-Mexico border. On one trip, I met activists in South Texas organizing their communities and holding demonstrations outside a detention center holding refugee children. On another, I got to see an amazing group of lawyers facilitate a border crossing for a large group of families who had been separated from their children and deported. Both were transformative experiences. Amazed by the activists I met on the ground, and the experts advocating on behalf of vulnerable people, I set out to learn more about refugees and politics surrounding migration around the world.
In January, I traveled to Poland with a group of students to see the response to the War in Ukraine and the differential treatment of Syrian, Afghan, Iraqi, and other refugees on Poland's border with Belarus. There, I learned about the grassroots activist response and international NGO infrastructure, and local political situation. I also saw chilling parallels between the US-Mexico border and the Poland-Belarus border, and in the political rhetoric that surrounds the refugee situation in both places.
This summer, I've been accepted into a class that will take students to Greece to meet locals and practitioners working on the frontlines of one of the biggest migration hotspots in the world. The trip is a once-in-a-lifetime, but it is expensive and not covered by my tuition. Please help me offset my costs by giving to this fundraiser! I'll write a blog post to share my learnings with everyone who contributes! Thank you so much for supporting me and my learning!
Yours,
