Help Kumi Move!

Hey everyone!

Moving through some pridefulness and somewhat embarassment to share that I could use some support from community in moving out of my current space. If you don't know me I'm Kumi (BAE BAE), a black queer femme artist based in Los Angeles. I was just approved to move into my first studio apartment in years, after living with family for some time. Unfortunately due to my spinal disability and chronic pain I haven't been able to take on as many gigs as I could have this summer. Also, some major dj opportunities I had lined up for the summer were cancelled. I have been spending my time of late just trying to heal and things have been extra challenging due to covid. As many folks may be familiar with, I have experienced increased anxiety and apprehension about being in spaces with many people. This has made djing/performing regularly a challenge.

I feel very lucky to have qualified to be able to move into my first studio apartment in years, at a lovely space in Leimert Park owned by a black femme. It's been difficult living at home because I am not allowed to have guests and have had other challenges. Having my own space will be a great boost to my creativity, allow me to have studio space where I can invite and collaborate with artists, and a place for me to continue to heal in. If you know me you know that I am deeply devoted to creating spaces in community and giving in any way I can. Having my own space will give me more capacity and physical space to be able to do the work that I do.

I am raising money so that I can get the security deposit covered, which is $1250.  A lot of the events, parties, healing spaces, and other work I have done in community I have done without compensation. You may be familiar with my music or mixes as well. I am with great vulnerability sharing this and leaning on my community with this ask. Thank you so much for considering it :)

*FYI* I have made my goal and then some and thank you all so much for it. Please do not feel pressured to donate at this point especially if you don't have the funds to do so. In case anyone would want to donate to help with rent and moving costs I have increased my goal.
