Help KUD Dukat Celebrate Balkan Heritage in Des Moines, Iowa
Donation protected
Established in 2024, KUD Dukat is a folklore dance group based in Iowa. This collective comprises individuals of diverse ages and genders who showcase the traditional folk dances from the Balkan regions. The primary objective of this non-profit organization is to preserve and promote the rich and vibrant cultural traditions of these areas.
The Bosnian War of the 1990s led to significant displacement, with the United States serving as a refuge for many seeking safety and a new beginning. Although most children participating in KUD Dukat’s dance groups call the U.S. home, this organization provides them with the opportunity to learn about and embrace their cultural traditions and customs.
After participating in several Folklore Festivals throughout the Midwest, KUD Dukat is excited to announce that for the first time, its annual festival will be held at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 25, 2026. This marks a significant honor for the group, allowing them to showcase their effort and dedication. Attendance is expected to include at least ten dance groups and approximately one thousand guests.
KUD Dukat relies on contributions from its members and the community; however, to ensure the success of the festival, corporate and community support is essential.
